South Dakota lawmakers did not approve the “Dakotas Promise” scholarship that had been a priority for the Board of Regents this year.

University of South Dakota President Sheila Gestring says the program ran into other financial needs…

Gestring says they will continue to talk to legislators about the program…..

Some of the legislators that opposed the proposal said there were plenty of other scholarship options. Gestring says there isn’t a broad based needs scholarship available…..

The scholarship plan asked for two million dollars which would have been matched by the public and private universities in the state.
