Wheat harvest in Kansas is progressing quickly with some above average yields being cut. Marsha Boswell with the Kansas Wheat Commission says yields so far have averaged around 50 bushels per acre. However, that may not necessarily translate into record production this year.
She says that compares to 37 bushels per acre last year and 28 bushels per acre the year before. Boswell says they expect to harvest 382 million bushels this year, which is up significantly from 321.9 million last year. She says as far as quality, test weights are positive but protein levels are below average.
Boswell says they are more than half done with the harvest in Kansas and should be finished in the next two weeks.
