A visit to the local grocery store shows food prices are on the rise, and the American Farm Bureau Federation says the cost for a July 4th cookout for ten people has increased 17 percent from last year. U-S consumers will pay on average $69.68 for their favorite Independence Day cookout foods for ten people. That equates to approximately a cost of $7 per person. Dr. Roger Cryan, the chief economist for the American Farm Bureau says it is the largest increase since the survey was started nearly ten years ago. Cryan says the impact on consumers are significant. The Farm Bureau economist says despite consumers beliefs, farmers are not making an abundance of money with the high food prices. He says farmers’ input costs are skyrocketing, which only adds to the price of food. The July 4th cookout meal survey consisted of hamburger buns, cheese, ground beef, cookies, ice cream, strawberries, chips, chicken breast, pork chops, pork and beans, lemonade, and potato salad.
