A U.S. District Court judge has upheld North Dakota’s Corporate Farming Law. The law had been challenged by the North Dakota Farm Bureau which called the law unconstitutional. North Dakota Farmers Union President Mark Watne says the judge ruled the law was constitutional and should remain.
He says the law prevents corporations from owning ag operations. However, it does allow family corporations with 15 members that are related as first cousin or less to own land and farm it.
Watne says the district court ruling upheld what the state’s citizens said they wanted.
No word yet on whether the decision will be appealed.
