A U.S. district court judge in California has ruled an injunction will remain in place until a court case is settled regarding the state’s Proposition 65 law. The injunction keeps the regulation from going into effect that would place labels on products produced with the use of glyphosate or Roundup, listing it as cancer causing. National Corn Growers Association Board member and South Dakota farmer Keith Alverson is pleased with the judge’s decision. He says the case has ramifications for users of glyphosate across the country.
The National Association of Wheat Growers is part of the ag coalition challenging Prop 65. NAWG CEO Chandler Goule says the U.S. district judge’s ruling is a win for his group, as well as all of agriculture.
Goule feels good about the coalition’s case going forward that says glyphosate has been scientifically proven to be a safe product.
In his ruling which keeps the injunction in place District Judge William Shubb says the majority of agencies that have examined glyphosate have determined that it’s not a cancer risk.
