President Biden’s announcement of a meat and poultry supply chain action plan this welcomed by South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson. He says the administration is piggy backing on his legislation designed to expand meat processing capacity at smaller operations.

However, Johnson says Biden’s plan is light on details.

Johnson says while there is no quick or easy answer to the problems with the lack of competition in agriculture and the livestock markets, expanding processing capacity is critical.

He says more shackle space gives producers more leverage against the big four meatpackers and causes them to have to bid more aggressively in the market, thus increasing competition.
