South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson is pleased USDA’s Risk Management Agency has moved up the haying and grazing date for cover crops or forages on prevented plant acres from November 1 to September 1. Johnson co-sponsored legislation with House Ag Committee Chairman Collin Peterson to move that date up. He says the administrative change is great news for South Dakota’s producers.

He expects the USDA to provide more details shortly. He’s pleased they’ve moved quickly to provide assistance to producers to get feed they need for their livestock.

Johnson says he hasn’t spoken with his co-sponsors about continuing with his legislation to move the grazing and harvest date. However, he says the chances of his bill getting a hearing or even passed has greatly diminished.

The change only applies to 2019 and Johnson says he hasn’t decided whether to seek a permanent date change through legislation.
