Fresh off one of the more memorable buzzer-beaters in Jackrabbit basketball history, South Dakota State’s David Jenkins was announced Monday as the Summit League’s Co-Player of the Week.
Jenkins, who averaged 29 points over two games, also set the school’s single-season 3-point record and tied SDSU’s top mark for 3-pointers in a single game during the Jacks’ final road trip of the year.
The Tacoma, Washington native finished with 34 points against Omaha, going 10-of-15 from beyond the arc to match teammate Mike Daum’s single-game record. He capped the week by scoring 24 against North Dakota State and dishing a career-high six assists. Additionally, Jenkins buried all nine of his attempts at the free throw line against the Bison, and with time running out on the road sank a half-court, game-winning shot off the glass to complete a 17-point Jackrabbit comeback. The sophomore guard has now hit 98 3-pointers in 2018-19, setting a new Jackrabbit record for 3s in a season by passing Daum’s previous mark of 96 (set in 2017-18).
This is Jenkins’ first weekly honor for the 2018-19 season and second of his career. He shared the honors this week with Omaha’s Zach Jackson.
