Japanese Millers are in North Dakota this week visiting elevators and meeting with wheat breeders and researchers at North Dakota State University. The group is being hosted by the State Wheat Commission. Marketing Director Erica Olson says they want to look at the North Dakota crop and talk with experts about it.
She says Japan is the top customer for U.S. spring wheat. Olson says Japan has had several trade teams visit in the past. She says they like the high quality of wheat grown in the Dakotas.
Olson says the Japanese group also wants to learn more about bio tech wheat and are interested in research going on in that area.
