Japanese Prime Minister Abe is speaking to a joint session of Congress today in Washington. He has been in the U.S. meeting with President Obama in part to talk about trade. Nebraska Congressman Adrian Smith says his visit may signal a Trans Pacific Partnership deal is close.
With speculation that Japan will not go to zero tariffs, especially on sensitive producers he says they have to try to strike a middle ground because Japan is such a big trading partner.
He says if the U.S. doesn’t pass TPP there are other countries that are willing to step in and strike a deal.
