The James River Water Development District Board of Directors will talk about long term planning at their May meeting.
District Manager Dave Bartel says they have some ideas of providing alternate water sources to livestock producers along the river…..
Bartel says livestock would do better if they stay out of the James River and feeder streams…..
The legislature passed a bill this year that would give producers a tax break if they create buffer strips near streams. Bartel says they have had some CRP type payment programs for several years….
Bartel says they also would like to address the long-term problem of trees and other debris ending up in the river.
The board will meet May 11th in Alexandria.
