Jager, Byker Earn GPAC Awards

The Great Plains Athletic Conference has announced a pair of major awards for their conference.

Tim Jager of Morningside College (Iowa) has been selected as the 2016-17 Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Athletic Director of the Year. The award is voted on by the league’s athletic directors.

Jager has been athletic director at Morningside College for five seasons after serving as head wrestling coach for the Mustangs. Under Jager’s leadership the Morningside won the 2016-17 GPAC All-Sports Trophy. Morningside has won the GPAC All-Sports Trophy four of the last five years. The Mustangs placed 11th in the final 2016-17 NAIA Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings.

Mike Byker of Dordt College (Iowa) has been selected as the 2016-17 Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Sports Information Director of the Year. The award is voted on by the league’s sports information directors.

Byker has been at Dordt College since 2001 and also serves as Sports Director for KDCR Radio. Known as the “Voice of the Defenders”, Byker promotes the 18 varsity sports at Dordt College. He maintains the Dordt College athletic website as well as coordinates live broadcasts and all of the Defenders social media platforms.
