Both South Dakota State and South Dakota tallied soccer wins Sunday with standout performances.
South Dakota State prevailed over Creighton in women’s soccer for the first time in program history Sunday afternoon, winning by a score of 1-0.
“This was a historic win for us. Creighton has always been a very tough rival and we’ve had so many close games. It was so great to rebound from Friday and get a win today,” said head coach Lang Wedemeyer.
Early in the second half, sophomore Tori Poole took a shot from 30 yards out finding the back of the net resulting in the game winning point. Fellow sophomore Nicole Hatcher assisted on the play.
South Dakota freshman Sammie Villwock scored a hat trick to lead the Coyotes to a 4-3 overtime win against Green Bay at USD Soccer Complex on Sunday.
After regulation ended with a 3-3 tie, the Coyotes and Phoenix entered overtime with the golden goal rule in effect.
Dribbling up the center of the field in the 92nd minute, Anderson sent the ball out left to Villwock. With a Phoenix defender approaching from the outside, Villwock took a quick left footed shot and sent it into the back of the net for the win.
