On the strength of top-three regular season finishes in 16 of 18 sports, South Dakota State University claimed its third consecutive Summit League Commissioner’s Cup.

The Jackrabbits totaled 98 points during the 2014-15 athletics season, and also won both the Dr. William Steinbrecher Men’s All-Sports Award (41 points) and the Dr. Helen Smiley Women’s All-Sports Award (57 points). South Dakota placed second in the Commissioner’s Cup standings with 89 points, with North Dakota State taking third with 82.5 points.

SDSU won regular season titles in women’s soccer and men’s basketball, and took second in men’s cross country, women’s swimming and diving, women’s basketball and baseball.

The Commissioner’s Cup title is the fourth in program history for SDSU, which won the award for the first time during the 2010-11 athletics season. The Jackrabbits also claimed their third consecutive men’s all-sports title and fourth women’s all-sports award — previously winning the award during the 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2013-14 academic years.

The Commissioner’s Cup is awarded annually to the member institution that collects the most combined points in relationship to placement in league-sponsored sports between its men’s and women’s athletic programs, while the all-sports awards are given to the institutions that accumulate the most points in men’s sports and women’s sports. The men’s award is named for former Valparaiso Director of Athletics Dr. William Steinbrecher, who guided the Crusaders from 1979-2004, while the women’s award is named for former Western Illinois Director of Athletics Dr. Helen Smiley, who headed WIU’s athletic program from 1994-2001.
