For the fourth year in a row and fifth time in six seasons, South Dakota State University Athletics has captured the Summit League Commissioner’s Cup.
Jackrabbit teams compiled 98.5 points in the Commissioner’s Cup racing, easily outpacing the rest of the nine-school field. North Dakota State was second with 79.5 points, followed by the University of South Dakota with 75.5 points.
The Commissioner’s Cup is given annually to the member institution that collects the most combined points in relationship to placement in league-sponsored sports between its men’s and women’s athletic programs
In addition, SDSU claimed the Dr. William Steinbrecher Men’s All-Sports Award for the fourth consecutive year, and placed second in the running for Dr. Helen Smiley Women’s All-Sports Award. The Jackrabbits’ men’s program was paced by a tournament championship from the golf team and a co-regular season title by the basketball team en route to a total of 40.5 points. Oral Roberts was second with 31.5 points.
The Jackrabbit women’s program received runner-up finishes from the basketball, cross country golf, soccer and swimming and diving squads in tallying 58 points in the Dr. Helen Smiley Women’s All-Sports Award standings. South Dakota won the competition with 59.5 points, with North Dakota State taking third with 51.5 points.
