It was a win for South Dakota State and a loss for South Dakota in separate soccer matches on Sunday.
South Dakota State beat Drake, 2-1, in women’s soccer action on Sunday for the Jackrabbits’ second consecutive win. The Bulldogs took 16 shots to the Jacks’ 12, but the Jackrabbits succeeded in finding the back of the net.
Senior Alyssa Brazil scored an early goal with an assist from senior Diana Potterveld, kicking up the momentum for the Jacks.
Drake tied the score towards the end of the first half with a goal from junior Kayla Armstrong, but the Jacks came back after halftime determined to get the ball to the back of the net.
Around the 52-minute mark, junior Madison Yueill scored the game-winning goal off a penalty kick. This marks the second penalty kick goal for Yueill this season.
North Dakota’s Veronica Kessler came off the bench to score two goals, while teammates Riley Koberinkski and Zoe Foster added one each in UND’s 4-0 win over South Dakota at Bronson Field on Sunday.
North Dakota (2-1-0) scored its first goal in the 40th minute following two back-to-back saves by the South Dakota (0-4-0) defense. Kessler picked up the rebound off the second blocked shot and sent it up past the defense and out of freshman Coyote goalkeeper Parker Rytz’s reach.
