The South Dakota State men’s golf team shot a 297 Tuesday in the second round of the 2016 NCAA Kohler Regional while Grant Smith and Felipe Strobach are tied for 10th.
The Jackrabbits were nine over par on the day and trail leader No. 16 Florida, which shot a six-under par 282 on the par-72, 7,123-yard Meadow Valley course at Blackwolf Run. SDSU needs to finish in the top five to advance to the NCAA Championship in Oregon. It trails fifth-place Idaho by five strokes.
Strobach (Lima, Peru) jumped over 30 spots in the rankings after firing a two-under par 70 (74-70=144) to tie for 10th. The freshman collected three birdies in the round. Smith (Johnston, Iowa) fell to 10th, shooting a three-over par 75 (69-75=144). The junior had two birdies. Strobach and Smith trail the tournament’s leader, Florida’s Alejandro Tosti (70-68=138), by six strokes.
Freshman Alejandro Perazzo (Caracas, Venezuela) finished 43rd after shooting a 77 (71-77=148).
Junior Trevor Tobin (Brandon) and freshman Jaxon Lynn (Sylvan Lake, Alberta) both shot a four-over par 76s for a second consecutive day and are tied for 63rd (76-76=152). They each had two birdies in the round.
The final round of Kohler Regional is Wednesday.
