Coming from seven strokes down in the final round, the South Dakota State men’s golf team defended its 2016 title, winning the 2017 Summit League Championship Tuesday at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas.
Leading the way for the Jackrabbits was Summit League Championship MVP Grant Smith, who captured The Summit League individual title.
SDSU started the final round seven strokes behind Oral Roberts and one behind North Dakota State. The Jacks shot a final round four-under par 284 and a three-round 877 (293-300-284) on the par-72, 6,733-yard course to win by two strokes.
Smith battled the entire final round to stay atop the leaderboard after finishing the first two rounds up a stroke. The senior shot a final round two-under par 70 (71-73-70=214) with 10 birdies in the championship.
South Dakota’s Cody Seal was the runner-up as he led the Coyotes to a third-place finish at The Summit League Men’s Golf Championships.
