A final-day charge helped the South Dakota State women’s golf team finish second at the 2016 Summit League Championship at the Arbor Links Golf Course Wednesday.
SDSU finishes second for the third time (2008, 2010). The Jackrabbits shot 930 (318-301-311) on the par-72, 6,179-yard course. Two-time defending champion Denver won the title shooting an 878 (295-283-300). The Pioneers’ Jessica Carty was medalist, firing a 217 (69-72-76).
Junior Megan Mingo (Yankton) turned in the best final round and the third-best round of the championship, shooting a two-under par 70 to place seventh (80-77-70). She shot par on the front nine with a birdie on the 9th hole and was two strokes under on the back nine with birdies on the 11th, 12th, 16th and 17th holes.
South Dakota junior Brenna Lervick finished at 6-over par and tied for third place at the Summit League Women’s Golf Championships. With the finish, Lervick was named to the All-Tournament Team. The championships included 45 golfers from the Summit’s nine teams.
