In a 2016 remake of Aesop’s classic fable of the Tortoise and the Hare, South Dakota State and Maryland meet on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, Wash.

The Terrapins and the Jackrabbits tip at approximately 1:20 PT, 3:20 CT, after the completion of the No. 4 seed Cal vs. No. 13 seed Hawaii contest, which starts at 11 a.m. PT.

The Jackrabbits earned a No. 12 seed after winning the automatic bid by winning The Summit League Tournament, and enter their third NCAA Tournament in the last five years with a 26-7 overall record, with an 0-2 mark in the tournament.

The Terrapins earned a No. 5 seed as an at-large team after being ousted from the Big Ten Tournament by Michigan State, a No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region. This marks the 25th tournament appearance for the Terps, who own a 38-23 record in the tournament, which includes a national title in 2002.
