— Kansas scored three goals in the final 15 minutes of regulation to down South Dakota State in their women’s soccer exhibition match Friday.

The teams were deadlocked in a scoreless tie through the first half, but Kansas scored two unanswered goals in a four-minute span just after the 75th minute to take the lead. The Jayhawks tacked on their third goal with less than two minutes remaining in regulation play.

In the first half, Kansas opened the game by attacking the SDSU net. Nicole Inskeep held fast, making a save on a point-blank shot by Ashley Williams at 5:44. At 43:09, freshman Nicole Hatcher almost put SDSU on the board, but her shot hit the crossbar. Kansas outshot SDSU, 7-6, in the frame.

The Jackrabbits started the second half strong, posting seven shots in the first 30 minutes and holding the Jayhawks to just two. But, after a brief intermission at the 75th minute, Taylor Estrada found Ali Kimura running uncovered through the box to put Kansas on the board.

Eli Mayr made it a two-goal game at 78:33, taking a cross from Kimura and beating Elisa Stamatakis. After the coaches elected to play an additional 15 minutes, Williams tapped home a rebound to make it a 3-0 final.

SDSU and Kansas each recorded 16 shots. Kansas held a 5-0 lead in shots on goal. Inskeep and Stamatakis each made a save. Hatcher led SDSU with five shots.

The Jackrabbits return to action Friday, Aug. 22 at Fishback Park when they take on Creighton to open the regular season.
