Nebraska scored both of its goals in the second half, lifting the Cornhuskers to a 2-0 victory over South Dakota State in an exhibition women’s soccer match Wednesday evening at the new Barbara Hibner Stadium.

Alli Peterson put Nebraska on the board five minutes into the second half and Jaycie Johnson added a goal 10 minutes later to provide the final margin. The Cornhuskers held a 20-6 advantage in shots for the match.

Jackrabbit starting goalkeeper Nicole Inskeep made four saves to keep Nebraska off the board in the first half. Maggie Smither allowed both goals and made one save while sharing goalkeeping duties with Blaklee McMillen in the second half. McMillen also was credited with one save.

Tori Poole paced the SDSU offensive attack with two shots. Erika Johnson stopped a pair of Jackrabbit shot attempts in 59 minutes of action in the net for Nebraska.

The defending Summit League champion Jackrabbits open the regular season Aug. 21 by hosting Iowa State. Start time is set for 6 p.m. at Fishback Soccer Park.
