South Dakota State finished its matchup versus South Dakota with a 17-5 edge in shots but was unable to find the back of the net as the two sides played to a scoreless tie on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Fishback Soccer Park in The Summit League opener.

The contest was controlled primarily by the Jackrabbits with SDSU owning 66% of the possession over the course of 90 minutes. The Jackrabbits had six shots wind up on goal but South Dakota’s Caroline Lewis made six saves for the Coyotes.

Maya Hansen led SDSU with six shots including two on goal. Jackrabbits Cece Limongi, Avery Murdzek, Karlee Manding and Kaycee Manding also registered shots on target.

South Dakota had just two shots find their way towards the net as SDSU goalkeeper Hailee Fischer made saves on each shot that came her way in the second half.

“We settled for some half chances when we could have created maybe a little bit more dangerous of chances,” SDSU head coach Brock Thompson said. “I think that that’s part of the reason why we didn’t score a goal. But overall, as far as the game we played, I thought we played pretty well. We’ve just got to be a little bit better in the final third.”

Notes
SDSU improved on its unbeaten streak during regular season matches at Fishback Soccer Park to 38. The Jackrabbits are now 6-0-4 overall and South Dakota improved to 1-5-4. The South Dakota Series Showdown head-to-head meeting between the Jackrabbits and Coyotes was played in front of a crowd of 444. That is SDSU’s season-high attendance while it is the largest crowd for a Jackrabbits home game in over a decade, with 466 attending an SDSU match in 2011.

Up Next
The Jackrabbits continue conference play and their seven-game homestand. SDSU hosts Denver on Friday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m. then follows the game with a 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, contest against Omaha.
