Second-year South Dakota State head coach Nicole Cirillo will be on the road this spring coaching a volleyball select team in Italy May 23 through June 3 in conjunction with American International Sports Teams.
“I’m always encouraging my players to gain new experiences and do as much as they can now. Yes, there are certain obligations that we all need to fulfill, but for the most part, certain opportunities don’t happen very often,” Cirillo said. “For me to take my own advice and take advantage of this wonderful experience shows my team that I’m serious about the things that I talk about. Every opportunity is a learning experience and traveling with this organization and coaching these student-athletes that I don’t know, will be a great one.
“Gaining friendships, learning a new culture, acquiring new training ideas and being able to connect with another group of female athletes to help guide their growth as an athlete is worth the sacrifices that I’m making to be able to go.”
Cirillo and her team will play five matches vs. club or sport school teams from Florence, San Marino and Lake Como.
The 2016 Jackrabbits volleyball team opens training camp in August and have plans for a May 2018 tour of Italy.
