After capturing the regular season league title, South Dakota State earned the top seed in the upcoming Summit League Women’s Soccer Championship.
The 2014 women’s soccer tournament takes place Nov. 6 & 8, at CIBER Field in Denver, Colo., and is hosted by the University of Denver.
South Dakota State claimed the No. 1 seed after defeating Denver on Friday, for its fourth regular season title since 2008. The Jackrabbits will be participating in their sixth Summit League Tournament in school history. Against league opposition, SDSU was tied for the lead with 15 goals and its 15 assists were second.
IUPUI earned the No. 2 seed by virtue of defeating Denver on Oct. 10. The Jaguars will be making their first tournament appearance since capturing the title as the No. 2 seed in 2009. The Pioneers are looking to repeat as champions after claiming the title a year ago as the top seed. NDSU advanced to its sixth-straight tournament and first as the No. 4 seed. The Bison defeated the Jackrabbits in the semifinals last season.
No. 1 South Dakota State (9-7-1, 5-2-1 Summit) faces No. 4 North Dakota State (8-7-2, 4-2-2 Summit) in game one Thursday, at 3 p.m. (MT). No. 2 IUPUI (7-9-3, 5-3-0 Summit) will meet No. 3 Denver (9-8-1, 5-3-0 Summit) in Thursday’s second match, kicking-off at approximately 6 p.m. (MT).
The tournament concludes with Saturday’s championship match at 1 p.m. (MT). The winner claims The Summit League’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
