South Dakota State athletes earned Summit League Player of the Week honors in baseball and softball.

South Dakota State University right-hander Tyler Olmstead was honored Monday as Summit League baseball Pitcher of the Week for his performance in the Jackrabbits’ series-opening win against Western Illinois last weekend.

A junior from Sioux Falls, Olmstead struck out a career-high 11 batters and did not walk a man over seven innings as he improved to 3-2 on the season as SDSU prevailed 11-3 on April 19.

South Dakota State’s Yanney Ponce capped an impressive week with her first-ever Summit League Player of the Week award, announced Monday by the league office.

Ponce hit .583 over four games with a double, two triples and eight runs batted in between the series finale with North Dakota State (where she went 1-for-2 with a walk) and a three-game set against Purdue Fort Wayne.
