South Dakota State University men’s basketball coach T.J. Otzelberger announced Thursday that junior college guard Chris Howell signed a National Letter of Intent, indicating he will enroll at SDSU this fall and compete for the Jackrabbits.

A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a graduate of Rufus King High School, Howell is a transfer from Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas. He averaged 11.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game during the 2014-15 season for the Jayhawk West Conference champion Grizzlies. Howell was sidelined by injury during the 2015-16 season, giving him three years of eligibility at SDSU.

Howell is the fifth player to commit to the Jackrabbits since Otzelberger was hired in April, joining A.J. Hess (graduate transfer from Southern Utah), Michael Orris (graduate transfer from Northern Illinois), Andre Wallace (transfer from Iowa Western Community College) and Sergio El Darwich (signee from Lee Academy in Maine).
