South Dakota State University director of golf Casey VanDamme announced that Jaxon Lynn (Sylvan Lake, Alberta) has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Jackrabbits in 2015-16.

“We are very excited to announce the signing of Jaxon,” VanDamme said. “Jaxon has potential and a desire to be great. Not many players get the opportunity to play in a USGA event, which he just did. ”

Lynn competed in the 2015 U.S. Junior Amateur in Bluffton, S.C., in July, shooting a two-round 165 (79-86). He won the Spokane qualifier by firing a 141 (74-67). In May, he tied for seventh at the 2015 CN Future Links Pacifics, shooting a 217 (77-67-73).

“In choosing SDSU, I was impressed with many things,” Lynn said. “First, of all the coaches I talked to, coach VanDamme made me feel extremely comfortable with his program now, and where he hopes it will be moving forward. I would like the opportunity to grow with the program and my game as well.

“Second, the description of the campus, the city of Brookings and the tournament schedule were also a big part of my decision. I feel very comfortable with my decision and look forward to getting settled and playing for the Jackrabbits,” Lynn continued.

In 2014, Lynn played in the Canadian Junior National and both the Alberta Junior Boys Championship and Alberta Men’s Amateur Championship.

At H.J. Cody High School, Lynn won the high school provincials, shooting a 149 (78-71) and the high school zones (72). He also won the 2014 Alberta High School Boys Championship and was seventh at the Alberta Junior Boys Championship (81-66-71-79=297). Lynn was also awarded the Male Athlete of the Year award at H.J. Cody.
