For the second time in the history of the South Dakota State University women’s basketball program, the Jackrabbits have advanced the NCAA Tournament’s second round.

South Dakota State, the No. 12 seed in the Lexington Region, used an 11-1 run to open the third quarter to record a 74-71 win Saturday over No. 5 Miami at Maples Pavilion.

South Dakota State, which is in its seventh NCAA Tournament in eight seasons, won its first opening-round game at the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

The Jackrabbits, now 27-6, will play the winner of No. 4 Stanford/No. 13 San Francisco Monday at Maples Pavilion.

Freshman guard Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.) scored 14 of her 19 team-high points in the first half to lead SDSU. Sophomore guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) added 18 points and sophomore forward Ellie Thompson (Chaska, Minn.) scored 14 points. Miller and Thompson each scored 12 points in the second half.
