Former South Dakota State University track and field standout Jazzelena Black is scheduled to compete Monday in the triple jump at the United States Olympic Trials.

A native of Oxnard, California, Black will be one of 24 competitors in the event, which is slated to be contested starting at 4:15 p.m. Pacific Time (6:15 p.m. Central Time) at Historic Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus. The venue is the same at which Black wrapped up her collegiate career on June 11 by earning All-America honors in the triple jump. She also won triple jump titles at both the Summit League indoor and outdoor championships during the 2016 season.

Black qualified for the Olympic Trials with a mark of 13.35 meters (43 feet, 9.75 inches) en route to winning the triple jump title at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas, in April.

The top 12 competitors in the Independence Day preliminary round will advance to the triple jump finals on July 7. The champion will earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic team and compete in Rio de Janeiro in August.
