For the second time in his career, Grant Smith of the South Dakota State men’s golf team has been named The Summit League Men’s Golfer of the Week after turning in a top-20 finish in the Jackrabbits’ first outing this spring.
The Johnston, Iowa, native tied for 17th after firing a five-over par 218 (77-70-71) at the Arizona Intercollegiate Jan. 29-30. For the tournament, the junior collected 11 birdies, including three in the final round.
Smith, who earned Summit League Golfer of the Month in September, ranks second in the league with a 72.67 stroke average through 15 rounds. He has two top-five and top-10 finishes this season.
Smith and the Jackrabbits are at the 7th annual Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate presented by Cleveland Golf, at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif., this weekend.
