South Dakota State University catcher Luke Ringhofer was honored Monday as co-Summit League Player of the Week in helping lead the Jackrabbits to a pair of victories last week.
A sophomore from Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Ringhofer hit safely in four of the five games in which he had an official at-bat, including a pair of multi-hit games against Northern Colorado as the Jackrabbits claimed the three-game series. For the week, he batted .412 (7-for-17) with a home run, four runs batted in and six runs scored. He also walked six times and remains one of the toughest players in the nation to strike out as he fanned only two times in 65 plate appearances.
Ringhofer shared the weekly award with Omaha shortstop Clayton Taylor. Omaha right-hander Corey Binger was named Summit League Pitcher of the Week.
The Jackrabbits open Summit League play with a three-game series Friday through Sunday at defending league champion Oral Roberts. The series opener is slated for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch Friday at J.L. Johnson Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
