South Dakota State’s Kyle Burdick posted the second-best time of his career Thursday in the men’s 1,500 meter national semifinals, but missed an opportunity to advance at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships after taking eighth in his heat.
Burdick finished with a time of 3:43.78 in the first semifinal of the evening, and though it held up as the eighth-best mark in the event, only the top five in each heat and the next two fastest times moved on to Friday’s finals.
The Rapid City, South Dakota native closes an extraordinary season in which he claimed 2017 Summit League Outdoor Track and Field MVP honors with a pair of league titles, and became the sixth Jackrabbit to qualify for nationals at the Division I level.
