The Iowa Utilities Board has rejected a request from environmental groups for a rehearing on the permit for the Bakken Oil Pipeline. The project by Energy Transfer Partners of Texas will ship crude oil from North Dakota across South Dakota into Iowa and end up in Illinois. Ed Wiederstein Chairman of the Midwest Coalition for Infrastructure Now says it’s time to get the project started.

All of the states involved have approved the pipeline project with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Iowa left to sign off on it. Wiederstein is hoping they’ll also approve the pipeline so construction can begin. He says there are several benefits to the Bakken pipeline.

It could be June before the Army Corps makes their decision on the project.
