Next month, the International Trade Commission will be holding a public hearing on their investigation into the economic impacts of the USMCA, the revamped NAFTA. R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard says his group will be testifying on how they see that trade deal effecting U.S. cattle producers. He says it is not beneficial to them.
He says provisions in the USMCA, held over from NAFTA, will allow meat from other countries to be labeled as product of the U.S.
Bullard says because there is no U.S. mandatory Country of Origin Labeling rule in the USMCA it leaves the U.S. vulnerable to inadvertent import surges.
Bullard says besides sharing their testimony with the ITC, they’ll also be providing that information to the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office, asking for a fix in the USMCA.
