Many Iowa farmers are seeing a significant increase in what they’re paying for land rents this year. That’s according to a survey done by Iowa State University Extension. ISU AG Economist Wendong Zhang says this is the first large increase in land rental rates since eight years ago.
He says better crop and land prices along with lower interest rates and government payments all were factors in generating the land rent increase.
Zhang says there’s been a modest increase in cash rental rates in the Northwest part of the state.
The 2021 cash rent survey is based on more than 1300 responses from producers and landowners across Iowa.
