Soybeans that have been resistant to soybean cyst nematode are becoming less effective. That’s the word from Iowa State Universtiy nematologist Greg Tylka.
He says the same thing is happening with soybeans and cyst nematode. Tylka says the less effective resistance is becoming an alarming trend that’s not expected to get any better and most possibly will get worse.
Tylka says soybean cyst nematodes tend to be more prevalent when conditions are dryer which is what Iowa is seeing this year.
Tylka hopes that will buy enough time for companies to bring to market soybean resistant varieties with other sources of resistance. SCN has infested 70 percent of Iowa’s soybean fields.
