ISU Extension Specialist Says Producers May Consider Alternative Grazing

ISU Extension Specialist Says Producers May Consider Alternative Grazing

Current high grain prices will likely put pressure on hay and forage availability across the upper Midwest this year. That’s according to Patrick Wall, Iowa State University Extension Beef Specialist in Marion County near Des Moines. He says that availability will be effected by hay acres being planted into crops.

He says one step producers can take with alternative grazing management is to try and extend the grazing season.

Wall says they’re also monitoring the current drought situation which is fairly widespread.

Wall says ISU Extension is holding an Alternative Grazing Management Field Day set for June 8 in rural Marion County.
