One way to deal with the recent spike in propane prices is for pork producers to incorporate some efficiencies in their hog buildings. Iowa State University Extension Swine Housing Specialist Jay Harmon says one of the best things producers can do is find the proper ventilation rate.
Harmon says producers also need to observe their animals to determine their comfort level.
He says it’s also important to make sure and seal any leaks.
Harmon says another way to save on propane costs is to add insulation.
