Much of Western Iowa is currently under a moderate to severe drought and dry conditions are hitting not only Western Iowa but the Northwest portion as well. Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist Paul Kassel who works out of the Spencer office says the drought area is fairly wide-spread.

He says corn in the pollination phase is most at risk however so far, the crop is hanging in there but rain is needed very soon.

Kassel says ISU extension has a series of ten meetings going on from now until August7 to help producers with any of their drought concerns. The first meetings are today in Adair and Atlantic at the county fairgrounds in both cities.

For more information on any of the meetings, check with ISU extension or with meeting sponsor the Iowa Corn Grower’s Association.
