Farmers wanting to improve their environmental foot print and having a positive impact on Iowa’s Nutrient Reduction Management Strategy may want to consider planting a soybean crop into a standing cover crop. Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist Paul Kassel will be talking about that at an upcoming field day in Newell on August 27.
He says it’s not difficult to put that no till into the cover crop and it will bring production benefits as well as effective weed control.
Kassel says after making a few minor adjustments, producers can use either their soybean or corn planter to put that soybean crop into the standing cover crop.
Kassel will talking about what farmers need to do to get that soybean crop planted into the standing cover crop at a field hearing in Newell, Iowa on August 27. The field day starts at 9:30 with registration at 9a.m. at the ISU Allee Research Farm.
