ISU Extension Agronomist Says Crop Stress Mixed In Northwest Iowa

Northwest Iowa farmers are seeing a mixed bag as far as crop stress goes this summer. That’s according to Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist Joel DeJong. He says some of the heat stress is noticeable on soybeans and somewhat on the corn.

He says some timely rains would be helpful and that crops can still recover.

DeJong says corn needs the moisture more than the soybeans as they’re getting close to that important pollination phase.

DeJong says both disease and insect pressure has been light so far this year and he hasn’t noticed any major outbreaks or signs of either.
