Agriculture groups are hailing the agreement reached by Congress and passed by the House Monday on a new COVID 19 relief package. Under it, crop farmers will receive $20 per acre payments under the $900 billion emergency aid deal. Iowa Soybean Association President Jeff Jorgenson says farmers and ranchers are in need of the funding and appreciate the efforts put forth by lawmakers.
He says it’s positive that in their aid package Congress made sure all row crop farmers were covered rather than just one or selective groups.
Jorgenson says besides the $5 billion provided to row crop farmers, another $3 billion is being allocated as payments to cattle producers and contract growers of livestock and poultry as well as dairy farmers.
The House approved the package Monday night.
