The Environmental Protection Agency has removed a proposal to make up for lost biofuel volumes stemming from hardship waivers as part of the Renewable Fuel Standard. Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw says the agency removed their proposal in order to satisfy big oil interests.
He says that proposal was originally put in when Scott Pruitt was leading the EPA. Shaw is hoping to work with the interim administrator to see if they can get it reinstated.
Shaw says if they can get the proposal reinstated it would help fix the RFS Waiver problem.
The proposed plan would boost the renewable fuel blending obligation to 11.76 percent from 10.88 percent to offset volumes lost under the waiver program.
