IRFA Says EPA’s Proposed RFS Small Refiner Rule Goes Against President’s Promise

IRFA Says EPA’s Proposed RFS Small Refiner Rule Goes Against President’s Promise

Tuesday the Environmental Protection Agency released a draft supplemental rule on the RFS and the Small Refiner Waivers. Iowa Renewable Fuels Association’s Cassidy Walter says they’re disappointed with what the agency released as they’re going against the deal President Trump worked out with biofuel groups and oil interests.

She says the way the process works is that the Department of Energy makes requests to the EPA on what small refiner exemptions should be granted but the agency isn’t required to follow those.

Walter says one of the problems is that DOE’s SRE recommendations are secret and there’s no transparency.

She says the next step for IRFA is to work with elected officials to weigh in with the President to make the EPA follow his original decision on the SRE issue.

EPA’s supplemental draft rule comes only 11 days after the President’s announcement on the RFS SRE deal.
