The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association reports that the state’s motorists purchased 2.7 million gallons of E 85 in the first quarter of 2014. Association Executive Director Monte Shaw says that’s a record and much of that is attributed to the low price for the fuel.
Shaw says those numbers are remarkable considering the number of stations that have E 85 available.
Shaw says not only are there record sales, the price spread between E 85 and regular gasoline is the largest it’s ever been. The average price of regular 87 octane gasoline without ethanol was $ 3.23 per gallon in Des Moines with E 85 in St. Ansgar selling for $ 1.64 per gallon.
