On Wednesday Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds unveiled the Iowa Energy Plan, which sets the state priorities and provides strategic guidance for Iowa’s energy future. Grant Menke with the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association says the report included two objectives specific to renewable fuels. The first is to increase the production and usage of ethanol and biodiesel and one of the strategies to achieve that goal builds out the state’s infrastructure.
He says the second strategy promotes the development of a high-octane biofuel vehicles pilot program. This would optimize engines to use higher and more efficient blends and possibly achieve CAFÉ’ gas mileage standards of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025.
Menke says they look forward to working with the Lt. Governor and others to put this plan into action.
He says there is much more biofuels and biomass can do for Iowa’s economy and the betterment of Iowa farmers, consumers and workers and this plan will unlock that potential.
