Wednesday, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee held an informational hearing on legislation that if passed would allow sales of E 15 year round. Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw say the measure calls for lifting the Reid Vapor Pressure rule which bans E 15 sales during the summer months. He says much of the testimony against the bill asked for E 15 use to be discontinued even though that isn’t the issue.
He says his group will continue asking Congress to pass the legislation and also weigh in with the EPA on possibly lifting the RVP.
Shaw says opponents to the legislation also put out misinformation.
POET Senior Vice President Kyle Gilley says it’s important to correct the misinformation made about American biofuels by the CEO of Briggs and Stratton at the committee hearing. Gilley says ethanol is ethanol, it is the same molecule regardless of the feedstock used to produce it.
Markup on the measure is expected within the next week.
