Last week the EPA issued a rule designed to maintain liquidity in the market for renewable identification numbers or RINS. That rule certifies corn kernel fiber as a crop residue. Iowa Renewable Fuels Association’s Executive Director Monte Shaw says that’s a positive rule for the renewable fuels industry.
Shaw says the other ruling EPA put out last week on establishing a quality assurance program for RINS benefits oil companies at the expense of renewable fuel producers.
EPA says the quality assurance RIN rules they’ve come out with provides a way to ensure RINS are properly generated through a voluntary third party assessment.
