The United States Senate today by a voice vote confirmed the nomination of Iowa Ag Secretary Bill Northey to the position of USDA Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation. That came after Texas Senator Ted Cruz released his hold on the nomination earlier today. Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw says he’s pleased with the confirmation and says it’s long overdue.

He says the ethanol industry didn’t agree to any changes to the RFS in order to get Senator Cruz to lift his hold on Northey’s nomination.

Shaw says whatever comes out of the White House meeting on biofuels it’s too late now for Senator Cruz to reinstate his hold on the nomination.

In a statement released today, Iowa Ag Secretary Bill Northey, a Spirit Lake Iowa farmer said it’s a tremendous honor for me to be confirmed as an Under Secretary of Agriculture., and he wants to thank President Trump for nominating him
